I wish to immensely thank all of us for a job well done.

It was a great outing.  All of us put in our best.  So the success we recorded is indeed for all of us.

It is difficult to say which team performed best. So in no particular order, I wish to commend our various teams.

First the Marketing Team. You worked with your whole heart and brought in great results. You have set new standards for our future marketing models.  Thank you very much our dear Barr Vincent Otiono and his team.

Our Finance Team led by Prince Eze was on top of their game with prompt and accurate publication of financial reports.  They were always willing to go the extra mile.  Well done finance team.

Accreditation Team was that team that always had its acts together with excellent documentation all the way.  There is nothing more to add.  They are just up there.  Thanks Bro Segun Lawrence and team.

 

Marketing Team with Barr Vincent Otiono, Chief Promise Uwechue and Mr. Joseph Joe Oyo 

Our Compliance Team led by Bro Ikem was on hand to resolve all preconvention issues and effectively executed the quality control of our processes during the convention.  Thank you very much.  Without your team, certain things would have gone wrong.

Our Security Team did well, despite several hicupps and management challenges.  Thanks Bro Ugorji and his team for managing the entire security structures

Our Entertainment Committee led by Bro Pius Agbi equally delivered, despite the limited use of WhatsApp and other communication tools.  The younger members of the team (Rotimi and Paschal) were on hand to effectively fill the gap.  Thank you, my people, for delivering on your promises.

The Awards Committee did exceptionally well despite their very few numbers.  With the awards reception, we have now built a good base for future awards and fund-raising aspect of the convention.  It can only get better.  Thanks Sir Adeosun and his team.

The Liturgical Committee took excellent care of us spiritually.  Their programmes were well executed and spiritually rewarding.  We were all blessed by your programmes.  Thank you very much Sir Patrick Rwang and his team.

The Publicity Committee led by Sir Augustine Obiora understood how important it was to deliver on time and with right quality.  Thanks for coordinating all our publications and making sure they were delivered on time.  Our delegates particularly commended the quality of the brochures. Thank you very much.

Bro Umoh and his Galanite / Quiz and games Team did very well.  They took care of us socially with the morning exercises and quiz competitions.  It was fun.

Our Secretariat though they were appointed late were equal to the task.  Not only were they able to quickly fill up lost time, they went ahead to deliver a quality performance.  Thanks Bro Julius Araga and Bro Boniface.  Thanks also to Peter, our PA to ADC president. You performed exceptionally well.

And to our "Men on Ground", Our Logistics Team, the "Last Men Standing" led by our Ikeja Deanery DC, Mr Obinna Amaechina and ably assisted by our strong man, Dr Dave, I say a very big thank you for your excellent delivery despite working with difficult vendors.  I am tempted to reserve my thanks till the final evacuation today.  However, true to type, I am certain you have it under control.  Thank you very much.

To Our Journalism and Media Team of Sly Okoruwa, Promise Uwechue, Segun Lawrence, Bro Rotimi and Bro Dennis Laah, I say a very big thanks to all of you.  Your activities led to an unprecedented mobilization of men across the length and breadth of the archdiocese within a very limited time.  Thank you very much.  You have set a new benchmark for future mobilization activities.

And to my silent back bone, the Steering Committee led by ADC president John Aigbokhaode and supported by Sir Iweha, Kingsley Ekwem, Jacob Amiegbe, Sir Adeosun, Prince Eze, Bro Peter Ugwuozor, Uche Chinagolum and Bro Segun. Identify your deanery accreditation table, Queue up either on the inducted or new inductees line, When you get to the accreditation officer call out your unique serial number and he will check for your name and ask you to sign

He will then give you the following convention materials;

Drop your bags in the hostels as no bag will be allowed inside the events halls. For security reasons

➡Drinks will be sold at subsidized cost

Registration Guidelines at CMO CONVENTION

HOW TO REGISTER WHEN YOU ARRIVE CONVENTION GROUND

After gaining access into the convention ground

First point to visit (Accreditation point)

There will be 15 tables with two accreditation officers manning each of the tables for each deanery.

The name of the deanery, names of the accreditation officers and their phone numbers will be pasted on the wall for easy identification.  Just locate your deanery table.

A. Queue up in two lines for each deanery

One for new inductees and the other line for inducted members

B, check for your name and unique number on the spread sheet that will be given to you.

C when you get to the accreditation officer just call out your unique number and he will mark your name and give you the following items

A.   Convention brochure

B   Liturgical booklet

C.  Sponsor's gift pack

D.  Registration card

E.  New inductees will get in addition to the above items a NEW INDUCTEE TAG.

Next Point (Logistic)

You show them the registration card. They allocate a bed space to you. Because all the foams will be properly arranged in each bed space in the hotel and numbered.  They will give you your bed space number and you then go to the bed space and take ownership by putting your bedsheets on the bed.

Depending on the time you arrive the convention ground

If you arrive before 10 am feel free

If you arrive after 10 am join the opening Mass

If you arrive from 12 noon go to the Hall for Spiritual Lectures.

Facebook to Pay $5 Billion Fine to Settle FTC Privacy Investigation

After months of negotiations, the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has approved a record $5 billion settlement with Facebook over its privacy investigation into the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

The settlement will put an end to a wide-ranging probe that began more than a year ago and centers around the violation of a 2011 agreement Facebook made with the FTC that required Facebook to gain explicit consent from users to share their personal data.

The FTC launched an investigation into the social media giant last year after it was revealed that the company allowed Cambridge Analytica access to the personal data of around 87 million Facebook users without their explicit consent.

Now, according to a new report published by the Wall Street Journal, the FTC commissioners this week finally voted to approve a $5 billion settlement, with three Republicans voting to approve the deal and two Democrats against it.

Facebook anticipated the fine to between $3 billion and $5 billion and already had set aside $3 billion for the fine this spring when the company released its first quarter 2019 financial earnings report.

Despite all criticisms Facebook recently faced over its mishandling of users' data, the company's earnings and user base are continually increasing, with Facebook bringing in over $15 billion in revenue for the first quarter of 2019 alone. The social media network also added 39 million daily active users to its platform.

Though the $5 billion fine amounts to just one month's worth of Facebook's revenue, it is the biggest fine imposed by FTC till the date, far bigger than the $22.5 million fine levied against Google in 2012 for allegedly violating an agreement to improve privacy practices.

"This fine is a fraction of Facebook's annual revenue. It won't make them think twice about their responsibility to protect user data," Representative David Cicilline, a Democrat and chair of a congressional antitrust panel said, calling the penalty "a Christmas present five months early" at Twitter.

"This reported $5 billion penalty is barely a tap on the wrist, not even a slap," Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Connecticut), a Democrat, said in a statement. "Such a financial punishment for purposeful, blatant illegality is chump change for a company that makes tens of billions of dollars every year."

The FTC has not announced the settlement deal publicly, as the agreement still needs approval from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Not just FTC, UK's Information Commissioner Office (ICO) has also imposed £500,000 (over $628,000) fine on Facebook over the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

PLANNING COMMITTEE OF THE 7TH CMO CONVENTION HELD ITS MEETING TODAY 11TH JULY 2019 AT SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, OJOTA

The minutes of the last committee meeting was read out to members after which correction were made and the minute was adopted. The various committees Head Step forward to present their report and assured the Archdiocese of its preparedness for the 2019 convention.

Our reporters on ground can say that a total of over 1,800 CMO members have registered for the 2019 convention with over 782 new inductees.

Reflecting on WHY WE ARE GOING FOR CMO CONVENTION (SPIRITUAL)

Induction Prayer

 I, ------------- come before thee my God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secret is hidden, that you may cleanse the thoughts of my heart by the inpouring of thy Holy Spirit, that I may perfectly love thee and worthily praise thee, through Christ our Lord. I pledge my commitment today, my Lord Jesus to serve you as a member of Catholic Men Organization, Archdiocese of Lagos, while building the Organization with all my ability and in total observance of its rules and constitutions, so as to merit a participation in its spiritual favours. I believe all the sacred truths, which the Holy Catholic Church I believes and teaches and hereby promise to respect and obey all its lawfully constituted authority. I pledge to serve not only those appointed over me, but to serve those put in my charge. In honour of his divine name, I pledge myself against perjury, blasphemy, profanity, obscene speech and other behaviours not compatible with my status as a child of God and member of Catholic Men Organization. I appreciate you my Lord Jesus for my family and status in life, and I pray that you heal me, change me and strengthen me in this my earthly pilgrimage. May God bless my resolutions. May Our Mother Mary, St Joseph, my patron saints, the Holy Angels and Saints assist me to keep them, so that I may merit to partake in the glory of the Apostles, the Martyrs and Confessors who laboured and died for the name of Jesus.
